📍 What Is the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System?

Located in southern West Virginia, the Hatfield-McCoy Trails (often called "HMT") is a massive, professionally maintained network of off-road trails. There are 10 individual trail systems spread across multiple counties, offering over 1,000 miles of rideable terrain for ATVs, SXSs, dirt bikes, and off-road vehicles.

🗺️ Best Trail Systems for Beginners

If you’re just getting started, these are the top 3 trail systems we recommend:

1. Ivy Branch (Boone County)

  • 20 minutes from Charleston

  • Great for families and first-time riders

  • Mix of wide, well-groomed trails and scenic views

  • Open to full-size off-road vehicles too

2. Rockhouse (Man, WV)

  • Beginner-friendly trails with optional challenges

  • Beautiful ridge views and tight wooded paths

  • Close to lodging, restaurants, and fuel

3. Bearwallow (Logan, WV)

  • Balanced trail system with green (easy) to black (advanced) trails

  • Ideal if you want to try a variety of terrain in one area
